Abstract: | In this year, the Center for Graduate Education Initiative (CGEI) had opportunities to discuss with five advisors on the meeting; Professor Atsuhiko Shinmyo (NAIST), Professor Toru Iiyoshi (MIT), Dr. Tomoyuki Fujita (NEC), Hajime Hiraki (JMAC) andProfessor Tomoko Torii (Rritsumeikan University). On the meetings, many topics were discussed between the members of CGEI and the advisors; quality assurance for higher education, JAIST's education system (shin-kyoiku plan), faculty development (FD) and employability. Specifically, Professor Shinmyo talked about NAIST's faculty development and discussed with members in the CGEI about how we conduct education in graduateschool. Professor Iiyoshi talked about the educational system. He pointed out the differencebetween higher education system and that in USA. Dr. Fujita talked about generic skill or employable skill in higher education and the globalism in students who hold Ph.D. Mr. Hiraki told how the officers in the companies evaluate the graduate students. He said that they evaluated the process the students had done rather than the results the students produced because they believed that the process in the graduate school predicts the activityof the students in the future. Professor Torii suggested that many foreign universitiesintroduced the communication skills into the curriculum. This is because it is suggestedthat quality assurance of higher education is to produce the students who can work together with other members. Specifically many officers regard the communication skills essential for working while the specialty remains important. |
